I have nursed all four of my children. The first three of my boys were good eaters and had no problems. They latched on like pros and were issue-free until weaned. They continued to breastfeed voraciously, even when solid foods were introduced, until approx. 20-22 months when they weaned themselves. I had the opposite problem with my second, who still wanted to nurse until nearly three years old.
My youngest (almost 6 months) has had trouble since day 1. Of course it started with not latching on, nipple confusion... he was doing alright for awhile, but I have started to introduce solid foods. Now he completely rejects the breast. He will take expressed breastmilk from a bottle, but it seems that he prefers formula. Of course my doctor's response is that it is acceptable for him to be weaned at this age... (ridiculous!!) and that I should let my milk dry up as long as he's taking formula.
I really do not enjoy pumping and rarely had to do it with my other boys.
On a happier note, I love summer! I wish it wouldn't end. We have a pool, which the boys (and friends) love. My oldest two took swimming lessons this year. I now feel okay watching them in the pool while I'm sitting in a lawnchair poolside, where last year I had to be in the pool with them. Can you say "overprotective"?
I am working on this.
